The main objectives of the SexEd4ALL project are the following:
- Creation of an inclusive sex education program.
- Create and implement a professional development course that helps professionals deliver comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) in an inclusive manner. This not only contributes to innovation in vocational training, but also improves the overall quality of care and support for people with autism.
- Train professionals in the implementation of CSE activities with their clients with autism.
- Raise awareness about the importance of inclusive sex education for people with autism.
These goals seek to address the crucial need for comprehensive sex education specific to people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), as well as train professionals working in this field to foster a more informed, inclusive, and supportive environment. By achieving these goals, the project hopes to promote sexual health and responsible behavior in people with autism.
The project focuses on:
The need for specific and adapted comprehensive sex education (CSE) for people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Their primary motivation lies in the increased risk of sexual exploitation and abuse faced by people with developmental disabilities, including autism, due to the lack of adequate sexuality education that addresses their particular needs. Existing sex education programs often do not consider the unique needs of people with ASD, who may find the education offered in schools inadequate.
To achieve these objectives, the project will implement the following activities:
- Field research and needs analysis to better understand the specific needs of individuals with autism and service providers in relation to CSE.
- Development of the online course “Inclusive Comprehensive Sex Education: A Guide for Service Providers”.
- Creating a video file for the course.
- Implementation of the EIS course through a pilot test.
- Dissemination activities to publicize the results of the project.
- Organisation of multiplier events in partner countries.
The project ‘s methodology includes the use of questionnaires for field research, the development of educational materials based on the results of this research and in collaboration with experts, and the utilization of animated videos and video modeling techniques as innovative and effective teaching tools for people with autism. Special attention will be paid to accessibility and inclusion in the design of activities and materials, considering the cultural sensitivity and possible sensory difficulties of people with autism.
The project is expected to have the following results and impact:
- Development of an inclusive comprehensive sex education program and specific materials for people with autism.
- Improving the quality of support services for people with autism through the training of professionals.
- Increased awareness of the importance of inclusive CSE for people with autism.
- Promotion of the inclusion of the autistic community in society.
- An innovative approach to vocational training by incorporating video modelling into the EIS course.
In the long term, the project seeks to generate a multiplier effect in the educational and support systems for people with autism, promoting more inclusive and diverse practices. The project’s materials and resources will be open source and accessible, allowing them to be used and adapted in various European contexts, contributing to a more cohesive educational landscape on CSE for people with autism. Participation in the project will also contribute to the long-term development of the organizations involved, enhancing their capacities and fostering stronger partnerships.
